DAVID L. DeANGELIS, 84, of Smithfield, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Polselli) DeAngelis for 58 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Louis and Maria (Calichiotti) DeAngelis.
Mr. DeAngelis was the owner and operator of C & D Construction for 60 years before retiring. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and was award the Korean Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars. He was a member of the Smithfield Senior Center and a Red Sox and New York Giants fan. An avid bowler, he was a member of the Senior Bowling League at Towne Hall Lanes in Johnston and could be regularly found out dancing with his wife on Saturday nights. David was a Volunteer and Coach for the Special Olympics for many years. He was inducted into the Special Olympics Hall of Fame, received the Special Olympics Family of the Year Award in 1991 and also received the Special Hero Award in 1999.
A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, besides his wife he is survived by four sons, David L. DeAngelis, Jr. and his wife, Aurelia, Paul DeAngelis, Michael DeAngelis and Alan DeAngelis; a daughter, Lisa Capracotta and her husband, Stephen; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Roland DeAngelis and Gloria Ricci.
His funeral will be held Monday, February 23, 2015 at 8:45 a.m. from the MACERONI Funeral Home, 1381 Smith Street, North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Smithfield, RI 02917. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
