John Lawrence Capuano, 91, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday October 16, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Gloria L. (Paolino) Capuano for 67 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late John and Angelina (Serena) Capuano.
John retired from the US Postal Service in 1988. He previously worked for many years in professional sales at the Regal and Florsheim Shoe Stores in Downtown Providence. He and his family belonged to St. Augustine Church for over 60 years. He was a member of the Holy Name Society. John was active in Boy Scout Troop 76 for many years and served as a volunteer committee member. In addition, he was an avid sports fan and especially loved watching the Red Sox and Patriots.
John is survived by his loving sons, John L. Capuano Jr. and his wife Marie of North Providence and Paul H. Capuano and his wife Sharon of East Greenwich. He was the loving grandfather of Kristen Smith and her husband Glenn, John Capuano III and his wife Amanda, Marc, Kayla, Christopher, Benjamin, the late Marissa Capuano, and great-grandson Nicholas Capuano. He was the brother of the late Robert W. Capuano
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday morning, October 19, 2016 from 8:15am to 9:45am at the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith Street, North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Augustine Church, Providence. Burial will follow at St. Ann Cemetery in Cranston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s memory would be appreciated to St. Augustine Church, 20 Old Road, Providence, RI 02908 or to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
