John J. O'Brien, 85, of North Providence, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 20, 2016 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law. He was the beloved husband of the late June F. (Tucker) O’Brien. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late William and Bridget (Barry) O’Brien.
Mr. O'Brien worked as Director of Human Services for Benny’s Inc. before retiring in 1999. He was a Coast Guard Veteran of the Korean War and was a recipient of the Korean Combat Medal, Sharp Shooter Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a 1948 graduate of LaSalle Academy.
A loving father and grandfather he is survived by his three children, John J. O’Brien, and his wife, Janice Morse, of Cranston, Sharon Bisceglio, and her husband, James Kerte, of North Providence, and Representative William W. O’Brien (District 54, N. Providence) of North Providence; and four grandchildren, Gina Erickson and her husband Justin, Janna Drew and her husband Matt, Kristy Kerte and Evan Kerte. He was the brother of the late Timothy and William O’Brien
His funeral will be held on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. from the MACERONI FUNERAL HOME, 1381 Smith Street, North Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
