ROBERT COLSON, SR., 79, of North Providence, passed away Monday, August 18, 2014 at Grey Bruce Health Services in Ontario, Canada. He was the husband of the late of Yvonne R. (Gervais) Colson. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Frederick Colson, Sr. and Mary E. (Mikut) Colson.
Mr. Colson worked for Bearing Service and Stop & Shop before retiring. He was a member of the Smithfield Elks, a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus – St. Augustine Council and was a volunteer firefighter on the Fruit Hill Fire Department (NPFD). He was co-founder of St. Thomas CYO Basketball and coached North Providence West Little League and North Providence Youth Basketball. A communicant of St. Augustine Church, Mr. Colson had served as an usher for many years.
He is survived by two daughters, Karen Brousseau and her husband Wayne, Susan Fitzpatrick and her husband Edward; five sons, Robert Colson, Jr. and his wife Danita, Richard Colson and his fiancé Lisa Cadieux, Craig Colson and his wife Anissa, Steven Colson and his wife Dr. Melissa Murphy and John Colson and his wife Jennifer; 10 grandchildren, Edward, David and Matthew Fitzpatrick, Melissa Constant, Craig Colson, Jr., Julie Colson, Riley Smith, Thomas Charette and Cameron and Jenna Cadieux; and two brothers, James and John Colson . He was the brother of the late Frederick Colson, Jr.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 9 a.m. from the MACERONI FUNERAL HOME, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, 639 Mount Pleasant Ave. Providence. Interment will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
