San Antonio, Alfred J., 93, of Providence, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2009 surrounded by his family after a brief illness.
He was the loving husband of Viola (Buonaiuto) San Antonio for 63 years.
He was the son of the late Maria and Pasquale Santantonio.
Born in Providence, he was a graduate of Classical High School and became a Master Barber. During World War II, he proudly served in the Army’s 88th Blue Devil Division from North Africa to Trieste, Italy. Following the war he was an aircraft hydraulics specialist at Quonset Point Naval Air Station until his first retirement. He continued to work for the State of Rhode Island, Old Stone and Citizens Banks until he finally retired at age 84.
He will be long remembered for his tireless devotion to family.
He is survived by his devoted family, daughter, Ann Marie San Antonio; son, Dr Richard San Antonio; daughter-in-law, Dr Pamela San Antonio; grandchildren, Dr Marianne San Antonio, Dr Geoffrey San Antonio and Michael San Antonio; sister, Laura Martellini and his nephew, George San Antonio. He was the brother of the late Nicholas, John, and Sister Lauramarie San Antonio, SND.
His funeral will be held Saturday, March 7th at 9 AM from Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith Street, North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St Augustine Church, 639 Mount Pleasant Ave, Providence. Burial with military honors will be in St Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. Flowers respectfully omitted.
