Anthony J. Scarpellino, 94, of North Providence, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 2, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Vincenza “Jean” (Bergantini) Scarpellino. Born in Federal Hill, he was the son of the late Michele and Maria (Checchia) Scarpellino.
Tony enlisted in the US Navy (1944-1945) serving in Okinawa during World War II. He was drafted into the US Army (1951-1953) and was stationed in LaRochelle, France during the Korean War. Tony worked for Providence Gas until his retirement in 1992. He was a great cook and enjoyed golfing, bowling, Twin River, clamming in Galilee and spending time on the beach in Narragansett. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
A loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, he is survived by his two daughters, Margaret Simonetti (Henry) and Barbara Guarnieri (Ralph); three grandchildren; Lori Simonetti, Robin Kerwin (Bill) and Sarah Smith George (Dave); three great-grandchildren, Matthew Kerwin, Mark Kerwin and Francesca George; two great-great-grandchildren, Zachary and Graham Kerwin; his brother, Peter Scarpellino; his nephews, Richard and Charlie Scarpellino; and many other nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John, Vincent, Rose and Anna Scarpellino.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 10 a.m. in St. Michael’s Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Smithfield. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visitation is respectfully omitted.
