CARLINO, ARMANDO, 86, a lifelong resident of Rhode Island, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at Berkshire Place. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Domenico and Angelina (Vallante) Carlino.
Armando had worked for Industrial Risk Insurers as a Risk Assessor for 25 years, until retiring. He received his Bachelors Degree from Bryant College. He has had over 27 years of Military Service. A WWII Combat Veteran, he served as a navigator on a B-24 bomber and was shot down over Czechoslovakia in 1945. Missing in action for over 30 days, he fought his way back to the Russian front with the Czechoslovakian resistance fighters. He served in Post Occupation Japan after WWII. During the Korean War, he flew over 30 combat missions in Korea. He also flew relief missions in the Berlin Airlift.
He was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and nine Air Medals. He retired as a Lt. Colonel, Vice Commander of the RI Air Guard.
He is survived by his two children, James Carlino and his wife Barbara Carlino and Bettina Carlino-Peake and her husband William Peake; two brothers, Gene and Raymond Carlino; a sister, Elena Carlino; a granddaughter, Kenzie Carlino and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Ralph Carlino.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m., from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony Church, Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. Visitation Friday 4-7 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
