Berge A. “Ben” Kooloian, 75, of North Providence, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2007 at Miriam Hospital in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Evans) Kooloian. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Oscar and Nivart (Tepekian) Kooloian.

Ben was a loving husband and father and a devoted grandfather and great grandfather. He had owned and operated the former Seventh Veil Restaurant in Smithfield, Kooloian Food Services and worked as a chef at Overbrook Academy in Warwick until retiring in 2002. He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of The Order of AHEPA, Italian American War Veterans, Roger Williams Masonic Lodge, Gaspee Order #99, Sword of Bunker Hill, Armenian Masonic Degree Team of RI, Operation Clean Government and the American Legion. He was a 1951 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School where he earned All State honors in football in 1950, and was the winner of the Outstanding Armenian Athlete Award in 1950.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Oscar Kooloian; two daughters, Annette Kooloian and Margaret Austin; two stepdaughters, Gael Costigan and Debra Haley; three stepsons, Robert, Kenneth and Scott Garriepy; two brothers, Sarkis and Suran Asadoorian; a sister Roxy Fiyod; two grandchildren, Michael and Sacha Austin; 14 step-grandchildren, eight step-great grandchildren, and three stepchildren, David and Bon L. Bibee and Deborah Fagnant.

His funeral will be held Monday at 9 AM from the MACERONI Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Funeral Service at 10 AM in Sts. Sahag and Mesrob Armenian Church, Providence. Visiting hours Sunday 5-8 PM. Burial with Military Honors will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
