BLANCHE (HAYES) POYER, 92, of Providence, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2021. She was the beloved wife of Edward W. Poyer for 68 years. She was born in Central Falls, RI in 1928.
Blanche is survived by her son Edward C. Poyer and daughter-in-law, Denise Poyer; Denise's children, Christopher Burgess and wife Angela Strano; Kerrie Spencer and husband Russel Spencer; and two great grandsons Jacob and Zachary Spencer.
Blanche grew up in the depression and pre-war years of the 1930's, and was a teen during World War II. Blanche married Eddy in 1947, when he returned from the Navy and WWII. In 1950 Eddy was recalled to duty to serve in the Korean War for two years. They had their only child, Edward, in 1953. Blanche and Eddy bought their home in 1960, where she resided until illness intervened. She worked for several years at the Outlet Dept. Store; as a crossing guard for the City of Providence and for Blue Cross. She received an Associate's degree from Johnson & Wales College (now University) in 1978; working fulltime while attending classes in the evenings. She also cared for her aunt Florence Farley until her passing in 1998.
Blanche was a terrific self-taught cook and baker, producing wonderful and memorable holiday meals. She enjoyed her flower garden, attending ceramics, knitting and macramé classes. She and Eddy enjoyed many trips to the White Mountains of NH, including several trips to the Fox Ridge Resort in North Conway and the historic Balsams Resort in Dixville Notch, NH. Blanche was a communicant of St. Augustine Church for over 50 years.
The family extends our gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Brookdale Senior Living, Centre of New England where she lived since her illness. Their attentive care and kindnesses brought comfort to her and to the family. The family is also very grateful to the staff and volunteers of Hope Hospice.
