Domenic J. Matera, 84, of North Providence, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Hopkins Manor. He was the beloved husband of Corrinne (Zucchero) Matera. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Anthony and Amalia (Picchione) Matera.
He worked for the United States Postal Service for 33 years before retiring and was a volunteer at the VA Eye Clinic for over 20 years, a member of the North Providence Lions Association for over 30 years and a member of the Salvatore Mancini Senior Center, North Providence. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and was an avid New York Yankees Fan.
Domenic was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Besides his wife of 58 years, he leaves his son, Richard J. Matera; his daughter, Cory M. Matera; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Michael Matera and the brother of the late Pasquale Matera, Isabel Iacono, and Lucy White.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m., from the MACERONI Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Lawrence Church, 624 Woonasquatucket Avenue, North Providence. VISITATION Tuesday 4-7 p.m. Burial with military honors will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the R.I.
