Elvira “Vera” Izzo (Germana), 85, of Smithfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence. She was the beloved wife of the late Ambrose G. Izzo. They were married for 63 years. Born in West Warwick, she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Maria (Rostelli) Germana. She moved to Providence as an infant and was raised and lived in the Mount Pleasant section of the city for 80 years, until she made her home in Smithfield 5 years ago. She would have celebrated her 86th birthday in August of this year.
As a homemaker, she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; whose greatest passion in life was her family. She was an exceptional cook and she enjoyed traveling and many social activities. She had a very active circle of friends and family that she shared so many beautiful occasions with. She will be sadly missed and deeply loved by all.
She leaves a son, John A. Izzo and his wife Jeanette Izzo; two daughters, Maria E. Mancini and her husband Lawrence J. Mancini, with whom she lived and Brenda C. Pannone; six grandchildren, Lori Peasley, John Marzullo, Melissa Callen and her husband Craig Callen, Jennifer Izzo, Stephen Pannone and Kristen Hodge and her husband David Hodge and two great grandchildren, Alexis Maria Callen and Adriana Melissa Callen. She was the sister of the late Guido Germana, Susan Cavallaro and Anna Imondi.
Visitation at the MACERONI Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, Wednesday morning 8:30am to 10:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Blessed Sacrament Church, Academy Ave., Providence. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd., Suite 3004, Warwick, RI 02886.
