E. Richard Scalzi, 85, a longtime resident of North Providence, passed away Monday, December 1, 2008 at RI Veterans Home in Bristol. He was the beloved husband of the late Antonetta (Ragosta) Scalzi. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Michael and Louise (Penza) Scalzi.
An Army veteran of WWII, he had worked as a draftsman for BIF Industries for over 40 years. Richard was a talented artist who loved to draw. He was an avid golfer and gardener who was a big fan of New England sports teams, especially PC basketball and Patriots football.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he leaves a son, Richard P. Scalzi and his wife Mary Lou; a daughter, Cheryl A. Browning and her husband David; two brothers, Michael and Robert Scalzi; three sisters, Carmela Forchione, Diane Tocco and Judith Corkery and three grandchildren, Anthony, Domenic and Daniel Scalzi.
His funeral will be held Friday at 9am, from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Augustine Church, Mt. Pleasant Ave., Providence. Visitation Thursday 5-8pm. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
