George T. Burgess, 84, of Providence, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, after a courageous battle with illness. He was the beloved husband of Bernadetta S. “Bea” (Perrucci) Burgess. Born in Johnston, he was the son of the late John and Maria (Costa) Burgess.

George had worked as a transportation coordinator for Lightolier Corporation until retiring in 1988. He had also worked for the former A&P Bakery for 25 years and as a shop foreman for Mt. Pleasant Aluminum. He was a member of the Bakery and Confectionery Union, a league bowler at Town Hall Lanes in Johnston for over 25 years and for 50 years was a member of the RI Racing Pigeon Association. He was an usher and choir member at Blessed Sacrament Church and a member of the Blessed Sacrament School Parents Club. An Army Veteran of WWII, he served with the 5th Armored Division and was a member of American Legion Post 35. He loved gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and was very generous with his time helping family and friends.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Stephen G. Burgess and his wife Josette; two daughters, Karen B. Guercia and her husband Steven and Donna B. Esposito and her husband Anthony; eight grandchildren, Victoria and Jameson Burgess, Ashley, Allison, Ariel and Alexander Esposito and Allyse and Zachary Guercia and a sister-in-law, Yolanda “Vi” Perrucci. He was the brother of the late Joseph Burgess and Marie Baldassare

His funeral will be held Tuesday at 9am, from the MACERONI Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Blessed Sacrament Church, Academy Ave., Providence. VISITATION Monday 4-8pm. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church Endowment Fund, 239 Regent Ave., Providence, RI 02908.
