Giovanni R. Carchia, Sr. "John", 85 of Providence, passed away Friday, November 2, 2007 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence. He was the beloved husband of Anna M (Giorgi) Carchia. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Costansa (Longo) Carchia.
Giovanni had worked as a Postal Clerk for the U.S. Postal Service at the Turnkey Post Office in Providence until retiring in 1992 after 35 years of service. He was a Veteran of World War II serving as a medic in the Army-Air Corps.
Besides his wife, he leaves six sons, Louis Carchia, John R. Carchia, Jr., Anthony Carchia, Joseph Carchia, Thomas Carchia and Michael Carchia; two daughters, Rita Lepore and Vivian Carchia; five grandchildren, Joseph and John Lepore, Domenic, Christopher and Katherine Carchia and a sister Carolina Capobianco. He was the brother of the late Louis, Anthony and Joseph Carchia.
Visitation at the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, Wednesday morning 9am to 10:15am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St Ann Church, 280 Hawkins St., Providence. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Please omit flowers.
