Giovina "Jean" Iannucci (Paolino), 95, of East Greenwich, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at home. She was the beloved wife of the late Hugo E. Iannucci, Jr. and long-time companion of the late Albert Vallarine. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Nicola and Angelina (Contillo) Paolino.
As a young woman, Jean worked as a telephone operator and later for her husband's jewelry business. However, most of her life was devoted to her family. She was everyone's "Granny".
Jean was a gourmet cook and baker. Her gravy and meatballs, spinach pies, and cookie recipes are still being shared up and down the East Coast. She was a duck pin league champion, world traveler, lover of scones and coffee breaks, and Chief Secret Elf for charitable Christmas deliveries for many years on behalf of her daughter's group of friends.
Everyone she loved received a crystal to hang in the window. Now every time the sun creates its rainbow through these prisms, she will be remembered.
She is survived by her children, Paula Calenda (Charles) of East Greenwich, Karen Iannucci-Carchedi (David) of Charlestown, David Iannucci of Newport NH, and Edward Iannucci of Citrus Springs, FL; five much loved grandchildren, Charles Calenda, Christopher Calenda, Courtney Calenda, Callie Carchedi and Nicholas Carchedi, and 3 cherished great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Richard Paolino and Claire Cook.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 11 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 3rd St, East Greenwich. A half hour prior to the Mass will be set aside to offer condolences to the family. Burial will be in St Ann Cemetery, Cranston RI. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
