Jennie Helen "Babe" Heston(SanGiuliano), RN, CRNA, 82, of Providence, passed away Friday, January 18, 2008 at Golden Crest Nursing Centre, North Providence, after an extended illness. Born in Providence, the 7th daughter of the late Lorenzo and Doralecia (Tasca) SanGiuliano, she was the beloved wife of Richard K. Heston, Sr. for over 52 years; devoted mother of Jeanne Heston and her husband William DiLibero of North Kingstown, Beverly Prince of San Diego, CA, Richard K. Heston, Jr. of Apache Junction, AZ and Joan Capaldi and her husband Nicholas of Tolland, CT; treasured grandmother of Nicholas III and Briana Capaldi of Tolland, CT; Richard and Sophia DiLibero of North Kingstown and Jacob Prince of San Diego, CA. She is also survived by two sisters, Viola Perez of Maryville, IL and Adele Scuncio of Anaheim, CA; a brother, Lawrence SanGiuliano of Providence and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Catherine DiCicco, Sylvia SanGiuliano, Rose SanGiuliano and Evelyn Burke.
Jennie was a graduate of Waltham Hospital School of Nursing, Waltham, MA and Johns Hopkins School of Anesthesia, Baltimore, MD. She returned to school in her 50’s and received both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Rhode Island College, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She worked as both a nurse and a nurse anesthetist at several area hospitals and nursing homes, and later became a school nurse, serving Hope High, St. Raymond’s and Holy Name Schools. In addition she was a devoted caregiver to several members of her family. She was the first president of the RI Association of Nurse
Anesthetists when it was founded in 1956 and was also a Girl Scout leader and a communicant of St. Thomas Church. After her retirement, she became a docent for the RI Historical Society, conducting tours of the John Brown House in Providence. She was a talented oil painter and an avid downhill skier; she once hiked to the top of the Headwall to ski Tuckerman’s Ravine in New Hampshire.
Visitation at the MACERONI Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence Tuesday morning from 10 to 11am followed by a Service at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations will be appreciated on behalf of Beacon Hospice, 1 Catamore Boulevard, East Providence, RI 02914.
