Jennie N. Aspry (Aspri), 96, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Monday, September 27, 2010. Born in Utica, NY, she was the daughter of Roberto and Maria (Spinelli) Aspri. She was the beloved sister of Robert and Anita Aspry and of the late Anna Filippone, Palma Zinno, and Harry Aspri. She is survived by her sister-in-law Carmella Aspri and many loving nieces and nephews and their families.
A graduate of Central High School, she worked as a secretary, first at Walsh-Kaiser Shipyard and then for many years in the personnel office at United Wire Co. During World War II, she supported the war efforts by selling U.S. savings bonds. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League and an avid bowler, receiving many trophies. Jennie supported many charities for children and veterans and often entertained those with special needs by cooking their favorite meals. She loved writing and reciting poetry; enjoyed theatre, especially opera; and always brought much laughter to family gatherings.
Visitation will be held Friday, 4-8 p.m. with a funeral on Saturday at 9 a.m. from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Ghost Church, Atwells Ave., Providence, followed by internment in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, contributions to VNA of Rhode Island, 475 Kilvert St., Warwick, RI 02886, would be appreciated.
