John Gasbarro, 83, of Gallway St., Warwick, passed away suddenly Sunday, June 1, 2008, at the VA Medical Center in Providence with his loving wife and children by his side. He was the beloved, devoted and cherished husband of 22 years of Genevieve (Simonelli) Gasbarro. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Nicola and Giuseppina (Anella) Gasbarro.
John was an Army veteran of WW II where he participated in the Normandy invasion with the 29th Infantry Division, “29 Let’s Go”, and received the Purple Heart for wounds he received in Herman, France in July 1944. He also received the Bronze Star Medal in 2006 for his actions in Europe during the WW II. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was liked by everyone he met. Besides his beloved and devoted wife, he leaves his beloved children, John N. Gasbarro, Sr., Michael E. Gasbarro, Paul J. Gasbarro and Rosanne M. Markrush; a brother, Mario Gasbarro; a sister, Palmina “Polly” DeBiasio; 10 beloved grandchildren, Tracey, David, Stephen, Marissa, Kira, Lauren, Klaryssia, John Jr., Olivia and Sarah and three beloved great-grandsons. He was the beloved father of the late Teresa L. DelGuidice and brother of the late Albert Gasbarro and Philip Gasbarro.
His funeral will be held Friday at 8:45 am, from the MACERONI Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Sts. Rose and Clement Church, Long St., Warwick. VISITATION Thursday 4-8 pm. Burial with Military Honors will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Hasbro Children’s Hospital, c/o RI Hospital Foundation, Box H Annex Station, Providence, RI 02901.
