John L. Sarro “ Back Bay”, 87, of Johnston, passed away Thusday, October 8, 2009 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Gloria E. (Spinacci)) Sarro. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Raffaele and Lea (Guglielmo) Sarro.
John was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a railway postal clerk until its discontinuation. He then worked at the Turnkey Post Office in Providence until his retirement in 1980. He served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II and was Federalized for the Korean War. His passion in life was as a devotee of Bing Crosby and his music. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and Brown University Football. He also enjoyed gardening and photography.
He is survived by his son, John R. Sarro with whom he resided; his brothers Joseph and Dante Sarro and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late
Frank and Alfonso Sarro and Olga Simonelli.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Ghost Church, Knight St., Providence.Visitation Tuesday 5-8 p.m. Burial with military honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
