Joseph Petrucci, 98, of North Providence, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, October 6, 2020. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen (Tonderys) Petrucci.
Mr. Petrucci was the end of a generation. Born on Federal Hill in Providence, the seventh of 14 siblings, he was the last living child of the late Frank and Elisa (D'Orchis) Petrucci.
Mr. Petrucci had worked as a toolmaker for Federal Products for 25 years. He loved to entertain and play his accordion. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving as a forward observer with the 83rd Infantry, landing on Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion. He participated in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, the Ardennes, and Central Europe. He received numerous medals for his service, including the Legion of Honour from the French government.
He is survived by his two daughters, Christine E. Pietropaolo and Judith Faye Roberson; and three granddaughters, Lara D. Pietropaolo, Stacia M. Pietropaolo and Kelly Huntington. He was the grandfather of the late Kathryn Sullivan and brother of the late Frank, Ralph, John, Robert and Raymond Petrucci, Alice Labriole, Belinda Johnson, Lucy Perini, Gertrude Pomoransky, Anna Macchia, Aileen Petrucci, Evelyn Read and Dorothy Andrews.
A Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 10 a.m. in the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
