TOPPI, LEONARD, J., 87, of Home Ave, passed away Friday, September 21, 2007 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband for 56 years of Olga (Giornelli) Toppi. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rachel (Isacco) Toppi. He was employed by the US Postal Service for 37 years, retiring in 1981 as a postal systems examiner. He also worked at Nocera’s Liquors and Smith Barney.
Lenny was an Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII, proudly serving in the 820th Medical Evacuation Squadron. He was a life-long communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son Joseph and his wife Grace of Smithfield; three daughters, Susan Toppi Butler and her husband Joseph of North Kingstown, Nancy Mancini and her husband Robert of Warwick, and Anne Marie Southwick and her husband Gary of Wakefield; a sister, Angela Toppi of North Providence, and three grandchildren, Rachel and Elizabeth Toppi and Hannah Southwick. He was the brother of the late Edmund Toppi.
Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 9 – 10 a.m. at the MACERONI Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, Academy Ave. Burial with military honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
