Margaret Capasso (Fico), 88, formerly of North Providence, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2008, at the Village at Waterman Lake. She was the beloved wife of the late Henry F. Capasso. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Catherine (Sasso) Fico.
Margaret was a 1940 Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude graduate of Pembroke College, Brown University, majoring in the Classics with her honors work in Virgil. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Rhode Island in 1972 and was a member of Kappa Delta Pi ( Honor Society in Education). She taught in North Kingstown from 1957- 1959, Narragansett from 1959- 1970, and North Providence from 1970-1978. She was a member of the Greater Providence Retired Teachers’ Association and was Legislative Co-Chairperson from 1979- 1990. She was a member of the National Retired Teachers’ Association and a registered lobbyist for the GPRTA and later for the RIRTA. She was a member of the Advisory Council at St. Anthony Church in North Providence, as well as, a member of the choir for over 30 years.
A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by her two sons, Francis H. Capasso of North Kingstown and Michael L. Capasso of Warwick; two daughters, Antonia C. Chappell of Wakefield and Susan C. Sanborn of North Scituate; two sisters, Anne Mele of Florida and Teresa Massouda of Pawtucket, eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Philomena Cassidy, Joseph Fico and Anthony Fico.
Her funeral will be held Thursday, December 18, 2008, at 8AM, from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9AM in St. Anthony Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. Visitation Wednesday from 4 to 8PM. Graveside Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
