MARIA LOUISE CALCAGNI “MARY LOU” (TESTA), of Providence, peacefully passed away Friday, January 17, 2014. She was the beloved wife of George A. Calcagni for 46 wonderful years. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Carmine and Matilda (D’Ambra) Testa.
Besides her loving husband she is survived by her loyal son, G. Alfred Calcagni, Jr.; her devoted daughter, Caroline Calcagni & Lombard Gasbarro; her beautiful granddaughter, Sophia Calcagni and two sisters, Judith A. Curran and Phyllis Fargnoli. She was the sister of the late Dr. Richard L. Testa and Noreen Ciancaglini.
She worked in the engineering division at New England Telephone Company; then as a nursery school teacher at Kids Kitty Corner at the Federal Hill House. She was very involved with charity events through the church. Her most important work and commitment were to her family as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed painting, music, dancing, and the theater.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. from the MACERONI FUNERAL HOME, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Sebastian Church, 67 Cole Ave., Providence. VISITATION MONDAY 4-7 p.m. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Lou’s Memory may be made to St. Sebastian Church, 67 Cole Ave., Providence, RI 02906.
