Mary Meier

Mary Rose Meier, (Matarese) 88, of Smithfield, Rhode Island passed away November 14th at home surrounded by family after a valiant battle with cancer. Wife of the late Herman (Rick) Meier, Mary managed businesses with her husband and took care of many of her family members’ children.

 

She is survived by her sons Eric Meier, his wife Martha, and Brian Meier and his wife Laura, grandchildren Jacob, Rachel, Nicolas, and Chloe Meier, her brother Nicholas Matarese and his wife Carole and sister Lucy DeFrancesco, and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Pasquale and Ralph Matarese.

 

Mary loved to bake and recently helped at her son’s bakery making her delicious Italian egg biscuits. Mary loved playing cards (Canasta), and Rummikub with family, and enjoyed weekly bingo and taking senior center bus trips. Mary had a great sense of humor and loved telling stories of her life and daily experiences.

 

Mary was raised in Providence but lived in many different states throughout her life while raising her two sons. She will be forever missed.

 

Funeral Mass at Saint Joseph Church, 854 Providence St, West Warwick, RI 02893: November 30th at 10 am followed by burial in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery.
