MICHAEL A. “MIKE” MONTI, 89, of Kimball St. a lifelong resident of Providence, passed away Monday, November 20, 2006 at the Village at Waterman Lake. He was the beloved husband of the late Clara (Messina) Monti and the beloved son of the late Enrico and Rosalia Monti.
Retired in the 80’s, Mike was New England car lot sales manager for the John Morrell Meat Co. for 32 years. A graduate of Providence College and La Salle Academy, he was a WWII Army Veteran and served as Mess Sergeant to countless GI’s and Heads of State alike. An avid boater and fisherman, he was one of the founders of the Warwick Cove Yacht Club in the early 60’s and later served as secretary of the Galilee Tuna Club of Narragansett for many years. Active in the Holy Ghost Church, he was prominent in the Holy Name Society, serving in many capacities. He also loved gardening and cooking for his family and friends.
He is survived by two sons, Michael A. Monti Jr. and Henry Monti; a granddaughter, Rebecca; great granddaughters, Sarah and Sydney; a great grandson, Michael and two sisters, Catherine Venditti and Sister Mary Concetta Monti R.S.M. He also leaves his loving companion, Catherine Atkinson and many cherished nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Concetta Monti and Gaetano Monti.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 9am, from the MACERONI Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Holy Ghost Church, Knight St., Providence. VISITATION Friday 5-8pm. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
