Pasquale Bertoldi, Sr.

Pasquale Bertoldi, Sr, 91, of Johnston passed away peacefully Saturday July 22, at home surrounded by his loving family. Pasquale was the husband of the late Maria Anna Bertoldi (Federico).  He was the son of the late Angelo Bertoldi and Maria Rosaria Bertoldi (Imperatore) of Sulmona, L'Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy.

Pasquale immigrated to America from Sulmona, L'Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy at the young age of 20. He met Maria Anna, the love of his life while she helped him learn to speak English.  They married on September 3, 1955.  He worked for the Providence School Department for many years before retiring.

There was nothing more important than his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pasquale was always surrounded by his family, with frequent visits from sisters, and sisters- and brother-in laws, including weekly card night. He was a natural born gardener growing fresh herbs and vegetables.  His famous saying was “eh, I just threw a seed.”  His nickname was “salt of the earth”. Pasquale was a fantastic cook, making homemade pastas, breads, and gnocchi. He was a fanatic Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots fan.  He will be sadly missed.

Pasquale was a member of St John’s Church, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, of Providence, until their closings.  He was also a member of the Local Union 1033.

He was survived by his six children, Marianna Bertoldi Menna of Cranston, Pasquale Bertoldi, Jr. of Coventry, Angela Bertoldi of Cranston, Diane Bertoldi of Johnston, Barbara Alchihed of Cranston, and Lisa Bertoldi of Johnston; his five grandchildren, Stacey Barrie, William Christopher Menna, Stephanie Silva, Melanie Bertoldi, and Anthony Alchihed; and two great grandchildren, Levi and Nadia.

He was the brother of the late Ida Balassone (Bertoldi), Giovanna Amore (Bertoldi), Francesco Bertoldi and Francesca Marinucci (Bertoldi).

His funeral will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 9 AM, from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Augustine Church, 639 Mount Pleasant Ave., Providence. Visiting hours are Wednesday 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pasquale’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 1 State St. Unit 200, Providence, RI 02908.
