Victor S. Colella, 101, of Johnston, passed away peacefully at home on October 20, 2024. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Costanzo and Laura (Spirito) Colella.
Victor worked for the United States Postal Service for many years before retiring. After retiring, he worked for Mclaughlin & Moran for many years. He was an Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II.
A loving and devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he is survived by his two children, Laura (Arthur)Pichette Fontaine and Richard Colella, two sisters, Ada Marcoccio and Lillian Zanecchia; three grandchildren, Demian (Marie) Pichette, Danielle (Jude) Paroyian and Deirdre-Morgan Pichette (Justin Bernier); and five great-grandchildren, Tristan, Demian, Sophie, Julian, and Gabriel. He was the brother of the late Flora Colella, Leah Colella, Vilma Generali, and Laura Marsella. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews.
Victor lived by the Four “Fs”, Family, Faith, Friends and Food and always had a great love of country. He spent every holiday, especially Fourth of July, and Christmas Eve with his large Italian family. He was a devout Catholic; first as a parishioner of Holy Cross Church for many years before having to move to St. Robert Bellarmine Church. He made many friends over the last five years through his viral video from “Caught In Providence”. The Honorable Judge Caprio was captivated by the 96 Year Old Speeder and they became dear friends. Victor loved good food and cooking for his friends and family. He shared his recipes for his famous apple pie and pizza with the Judge on TV and on You Tube. He also went out weekly to his favorite restaurants.
He was an avid duckpin bowler and loved to golf. He was a huge fan of all sports, especially his beloved New York Yankees and his favorite players were Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle.
As a World War II veteran, he had the distinguished pleasure of participating in the Rhode Island Fire Chiefs Honor Flight Hub “X-RAY” on September 14, 2019. While in Washington, DC he was one of two oldest veterans on that trip and they were lucky enough to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 25, 2024 from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith Street, North Providence. Relatives and friends are invited directly to St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Ave., Johnston on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 9:45 a.m, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Celebration of Victor's Life. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.
