William P.“BILL” Souza, 85, of Providence, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2008 at Miriam Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Alphonsina (Boragine) Souza. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Frank and Olive (Bicho) Souza.
Bill had worked as the shipping and receiving manager for Paramount Fountain and Restaurant Supply for 25 years. He was also the maintenance man at Holy Ghost Church in Providence for 30 years. He was a member of the Sons of Italy, the Knights of Columbus of Federal Hill and an honorary member of the Holy Name Society of Holy Ghost Church. He was also a WWII Army Veteran.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Paula A. Thistle and her husband Frederick; a brother, Alfred P. Souza; four sisters, Ruth Medeiros, Anna Lupo, Alice DiPalma and Geraldine Bettencourt; three grandchildren, Tracy Fratantuono and her husband Thomas, Stephanie Thistle and Derek Thistle and three great grandchildren, Nicholas and Lea Fratantuono and Jonathan Scaglione. He was the brother of the late Albert P., Clarence P., Robert P. Frank P. and Joseph P. Souza, and Madeline Ruggiero.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 9am from the MACERONI Funeral Home, 1381 Smith Street, North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Holy Ghost Church, Knight St., Providence. VISITATION Tuesday 5-8pm. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
